We are a troupe of the unexpected, the adventurous and daring, the young at heart and the old of soul. We interweave dancers, singers, musicians, jugglers, gymnasts; poets and sitar players to create a tapestry of unique and memorable experiences hidden in the lush green theatre of the shire.

We’re classic Northern Rivers folk, eclectic yet connected, barefoot yet flying high, born in far flung places we are all drawn to this old land, a vibrant land of mystery and magic, a land which truly feels like home.

Hidden in The Hinterland was conjured up by an assemble of local performers and artists to stay connected, stay true to their calling, to push back at the pandemic induced coma that our beloved creative arts industry has suffered, and bring performance back its roots, back to intimate settings, back to the natural fire lit amphitheatre our ancestors once performed in.

Our stages are the hidden valleys, the sparkling creeks, and tropical rainforests of the beautiful Northern Rivers Hinterland. Free of the constraints of walls, roofs and urban bureaucracy we reimagine what’s possible. Inspired by the beauty of our natural environment, we work with respect and in synthesis with the land to create unique experiences and daring/original/authentic performances.

Hidden in the Hinterland provides an experimental pathway for artists to once again share their passion and craft in intimate and secretive settings. 

Our dream is to bring back some mystery to life, to take our audience on a journey, to celebrate the unexpected, to connect like-minded people through shared experiences and to witness performance as it should be; raw, inspiring, unconstrained and intimate.
